Hi Nora, I just found this site and saw your post. I live in Tolland, MA and write contemporary young adult fiction, so I don’t know how much I can help. I assume you are writing memoir or non-fiction. I’m not familiar with the companies you mentioned, but I’m planning to self-publish through Amazon.com, B&N pub-it, and Smashwords. I’m using Create Space for my print on demand books. If you are considering indie-publishing, that is the way to go. The formatting for each venue is a little different, but fairly user-friendly and by uploading to each distribution channel seperately, you can avoid watering down your profits or dealing with middlemen so to speak.

I’ve spoken with real humans at Createspace and they were somewhat helpful when i had technical difficulties with my cover art.

A great web site is Writer’s Guide to e-publishing. DD Scott is a wealth of information regarding the ins and outs of self-publishing.

I haven’t hear from anyone regarding my asking for support om writing my fist book You Might Be A Southerner. Maybe I need to be more specific in my request. I am trying to make final decision about who I will submit my manuscript.
I am leaning toward Troy Book Makers but i-Universe (digital book printing) is also in contact with me. Has anyone ever dealt with the former company? I like TBC because I can make contact with real people. The other does not have New England office. (Indiana).
Please let me hear from someone with any comments you may have.

Hello,
I am writing my first book after teaching in classroom over 30 years. Wanted to try something different and decided to use my journal entries regarding “culture shock” of southern girl (me) moving north(Great Barrington). Daughter lives in Mill River and married to Dan Alden.
My manuscript is about 75% complete. Spoke with Susan last Friday in Troy about printing book.
Thinking about doing series on southern girl and her travels. I would appreciate any advice/help/support anyone could give me.

Spencertown Academy Arts Center, of which I am the executive director, hosts an annual Festival of Books over Labor Day weekend, September 3-6 this year. The Festival features author readings, panel discussions, children’s events, a gallery exhibition and more book-related events.

One day of the weekend is dedicated to local authors, and I would love to hear from anyone in Columbia County or the Berkshires who has a new(ish) book they would like to present.

Also, if there is sufficient interest in a writers group, the Academy would be happy to host.

Hope to hear from some of you wonderful women writers.
